Imagine Yoga Studio Now Open

Imagine Yoga Studio Now Open

Drop-in and enrollment at The Imagine Yoga Studio is now available to everyone, including classes for kids, ages 3 to 7, on the lower level of the Blanchard Block at 14 N. Main Street.   The Studio is owned and managed by Dana DeMartino, a master’s Level psychotherapist and certified yoga instructor, who established the space as a wellness center that offers yoga, Reiki sessions and meditation.

“I opened the studio to give back to the community and I believe these therapies enhance mindfulness, which are forms of meditation that can potentially mitigate addictive behaviors,” says Dana, “Mindfulness can raise the level of one’s focus and self-awareness which helps individuals understand that many perceived problems originate outside themselves. My immediate goal now is to provide a safe, inviting place where anyone can learn mindful practices, such as yoga, and engage in them,” she adds.  DeMartino cites research that suggests yoga reduces stress, anxiety and cravings, improves attention and mood, and encourages a non-judgmental attitude.  She is working with healthcare providers and addiction treatment specialists to offer classes to help individuals overcome addiction.

“The benefits of yoga and mindfulness for children is not fully appreciated,” Dana explains.  “In addition to strengthening unused muscles and increasing flexibility, yoga mindfulness aids concentration and relaxation.  Children sometimes think in terms of being acted upon and occasionally get upset when ‘things happen to them’ and there is a benefit to them, and their families, if they are more self-aware and acquire the capacity to control their emotions, and the environment around them.  Acquiring mindfulness at early age can have long-term benefits to their well-being.”

Dana is certified in Ashtanga style of Yoga, but classes will also offer Buti Yoga, and Yin Yoga.  “All yoga is good yoga,” she proclaims.  Reiki sessions are provided by Amy Fordham-Duff, a professional Reiki practitioner.

Imagine Yoga has scheduled classes 7 days a week, including one for “Yoga for Addictions” which is offered to those who are interested on a donation basis.  The rate for a drop-in class is $12, a ten-class card is $100, and Kids Yoga on Saturday is $10.

Dana DeMartino has been a resident in Vermont for 20 years, has an undergraduate degree from Champlain College, and a master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Johnson State College.
