The economies of Barre City and Barre Town are diverse. Historically, the area is known for its world class Barre granite industry that provides the finest stone products available and is home to recognized monument manufacturers and stone sculpturers. Due to the area's location in the center of Vermont and adjacent to Interstate 89, the Town and City hosts a number of manufacturers in the Wilson Industrial Park, and in the commercial and industrial areas of the City.
Over the past 5 years, the City's downtown has emerged as a revitalized district of restaurants, bakeries, retail stores, professional service providers, office space, apartments, financial institutions, cultural, non-profit organizations, State government offices and the location of arts and cultural institutions. Activities and marketing of downtown is organized by The Barre Partnership, a Main Street organization which has many participating members who offer services and products in Barre. https://www.thebarrepartnership.com/our-members
